It’s the Tin Angel, Folks!

Photography by Daisy Johnson

Will you be hungry on New Year’s Eve? I hope so because the Tin Angel Cafe is featuring a 4 course “Black Out” dinner for only 40 bucks. For that event, I’ll be soulfully ringing in the New year with some of the songs you love and some you haven’t had a chance to hear yet! Go to thetinangel.com for details including the reason it’s called a “Black Out” dinner! I hope to see some of you who I met for the first time at the TIn Angel. I have so enjoyed your presence and sincerity.

I’ll perform from 7ish to 9:30ishPM
When you make reservations mention you want to be near the music.
DO call for reservations! (801)328-4155

Don’t party on an empty stomach or an empty soul. Make this event part of your plans!

The Blogosphere!

Those of you who know me well know that I have a new passion for blogging. I have been reading up (books, not online like you would think) about how to run my whole blogging life from my iphone, the in’s and out’s of posting protocol, and even how to do fancy photo editing to add an interesting visual perspective to my written word. I did the cat/tree photo you see on the right on my iphone.

In addition to the blog you’re reading now, I’ve

just bought “uglyyoga.com” for all the non-glossy parts of yoga that are not often written about. I have nothing against beautiful yoga. I just find ugly yoga a little more interesting.

This is a pre-announcement because I don’t have all my e-ducks in a row yet. But there are things to read and see up which will give you a taste of what is to come.

I would love your input about what you would like to see, read, etc…
Just comment on this post if you have feedback. It would be much appreciated.

Happy happy holiday greetings to you!

I am excited to tell you about the Stonecircle Solstice Concert at Rose Wagner Theatre on Dec. 11. This has become a wintertime tradition for many. People even have holiday dinner parties which lead up to the concert! If you do that, please start early so you can be there on time and not miss any of my big moments. Also don’t drink too much beforehand. I expect to be the ONLY drunk one at that concert! More about that concert below…

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you a little snippet of my holiday experience this year. See, I really really wanted a Christmas tree this year (or Hanukkah/Ashura/Bodhi Day/Las Posadas/Kwanzaa tree, if you prefer. I’m not religious…or I’m hyper-religious, depending how you look at it.) Unfortunately, if our house were any smaller it would be on someone’s Monopoly board so a tree didn’t seem very practical. Then in swooped, “Chester, the Christmas (pronounced Ch-ristmas) tree” to save the day! Here the little guy is pictured with his ornament, almost getting the better of him!

Chester sends you Tiny Holiday Greetings and a Mini-Happy New Year!

“Stonecircle has played in major venues and at major festivals throughout the United States, so we’re lucky to have this professional group based here in our state.” – Adam J. Robertson, SCERA President & CEO, Daily Herald Newspaper

“Here are five pieces that sound like an orchestra exploring the narrative fabric of Celtic Folk traditions in way no U.S. band has ever done before them” – John O’Regan (Music Critic, Limerick, Ireland), Alchemy (Liner Notes)

“Stonecircle’s ‘Alchemy’ is the resulting gem from this outstanding group, obviously an important, and as yet fairly unknown group in the American Celtic music scene…” – Dennis Stone (Los Angeles, CA), Folkroots Magazine

For those who do not get my newsletter or who aren’t fans on my facebook page, it occurs to me you may be unaware of the awesomest experience I had this last month, courtesy the Utah Arts Counsel (esp. Jason Bowcutt, or “J-Dawg,” as I now call him. You probably shouldn’t call him that… just saying.)
Anyhoo, I received a grant to attend a national music/performers booking conference in Seattle, called Arts Northwest. Artists, musicians, entertainers come from all over, as do agencies, arts counsels rep’s, and all those who would book entertainment.

I confess I’m on my way out for a coffee so I’ll make this the short version. : )

I showed up. I didn’t know ANYTHING about who was there, what was going on, what to do, or who I was. That last one is a whole different blog! I didn’t do any of the workshops that I was supposed to do because, having been around the proverbial block a few times, I knew that relationships would be far more fruitful for me. I hit the jackpot with the amazing people I met. For example, the very kind and spunky Debbie Peters from Magnum Opus Management (magnumom.ca), powerhouse wonder woman, Joanna Maratta of the British Columbia Touring Counsil (www.bctouring.org) who gave me very valuable advice about my presentation and invited me to HER booking conference in BC in the spring!!!! I also had a couple of great talks and walks on the beach (there were no walks and certainly no beach) with artist manager/strategic business developer, Stephen Garvan, who helped me figure out if my dream of being a professional dancing monkey could be realized! (all true, except the dancing monkey thing. I think normally they’ve retired by my age.)

In short, it was an incredible and EXTREMELY educational experience for me and if you have a chance to go to a booking conference I think you should go, too.

Later,
Bronwen

Now I tell you of a concert I am truly truly psyched about… Carolyn’s Backyard Concert Series. Carolyn is this awesome woman who’s been hosting live music in her backyard for like 10 years or so and her series has become so well known that she books the best musicians in town (and even some from out of town!) to perform every Saturday night throughout the summer.

She has built a stage in her spacious backyard and, amid the sculpture and the vines, you get the sense of fairies and the wonderful energy of a friendly community.

Relax in Carolyn’s beautiful garden on

from 7 – 9PM

Enjoy an evening of music with Bronwen Beecher, the Fiddle Preacher trio, good friends and delicious food! Please bring finger food, appetizers, or dessert to share, a beverage of your choice, and a $10 – $15 donation for the concert.

This will be a magical evening. There is room for EVERYONE so please do not miss this one!

Finally, I now have a separate yoga mailing list for those of you who would like to stay up to date with all the yoga happenings. Please reply to this email to let me know and I’ll add you to the rockin’ yoga side of things.

Love,

Bronwen

Happy Earth Day and Showa Emperor’s Day  (J) this month! My excitement for spring runneth plentiful.  I even  noticed this morning that my serpentine Japenese Willow, named Clementine, has got bunches of blossoms started.
In this season of new beginnings I find myself immersed in a new yoga teacher-training, this time with D’ana Baptiste. I’m also taking clients on for private yoga sessions. If anyone’s interested reply to this e-mail. I also teach a regular Forrest Yoga class at Centered City Yoga on Sunday nights at 7:15pm.

Back to the music… (the subject you all signed up to hear about)

There have been awesome musical travels in Colorado with Celtic fusion band, Stonecircle. Check out their website for info about the latest album, Metamorphosis, featuring your favorite fiddle preacher : )

I can’t BELIEVE I’m still writing. This message is so long already! Part of me thinks I want to test how long of a missive people will actually read. If you’re still reading please write a comment with “I signed up for a newsletter, not a NOVEL. WTF!” in the subject line.

Which brings me to my big gig! Since I’ve been taking it easy on the music booking lately I’m putting on ONE BIG SHOW this month and I’m really hoping you can all make it. It’s at Alchemy Coffee shop on 17th south and 4th east on April 16th at 7pm. This is in conjunction with the art openings of Soren Green and Samnang Yong so prepare to see awesome eye-candy as well. Settle in, have a cup of some of the best coffee in town and enjoy! I’m don’t get paid for these kinds of shows so a tip of like $10 or so would be greatly appreciated.

Love to all. Happy Spriiiinnnggggggg!
